Running between the 5th – 12th October,In Liverpool retailers such as The Entertainer,Home and Bargains, Ryman and the Liverpool FC store have all signed up to take part.
During Autism Hour, retailers create a more relaxed environment in order for shoppers who are on the autistic spectrum to shop in a more calming and welcoming atmosphere.
Tom Purser, Head of Campaigns at the National Autistic Society, said: “Our research found that 64% of autistic people avoid the shops and 28% of have been asked to leave a public place for reasons associated with their autism”, he added “The National Autistic Society wants a world which works for autistic people. With Autism Hour, we a want to show retailers the small things they can do to help open up the high street for autistic people”

Many parents and carers find taking their loved ones who are on the autistic spectrum to the shops challenging, and therefore will welcome the adjustments being put in place by major retailers.
Autism Hour, also highlights the challenges individuals who are on the autism spectrum face on a daily basis. Creating awareness and knowledge around autism helps others understand how they can support and adapt for those who need it.
Across the UK, over 11,000 businesses will be making adjustments.
