A new children’s book based in Liverpool is to be published in time for Christmas, after a successful online crowdfunding campaign which raised over £5,500.
The Adventures of the Third Liver Bird is written by local author David Hagan with illustrations by Tom Corlett.
The story celebrates everything which is great about Liverpool through the eyes of a young girl who has just arrived in the city.

Author David Hagan , from Waterloo said: “we decided to use the website Kickstarter to raise money for the book. I'm delighted to say that people in Liverpool got so behind the idea of the book that we smashed through our £5,000 funding target.”
He added: “I wanted to write something that captures the magic of Liverpool and also has a positive message about inclusion and diversity.”

David was inspired to write the story after being unable to find a children’s book about Liverpool to share with his own son.
Mercy, the young girl at the centre of the story is named after David’s son’s best friend at school.
During the story, the liver bird shows Mercy all the famous landmarks of her new home, he even teaches her scouse!
Kickstarter gives individuals 30 days to fund projects, which saw donations come in from Scousers around the world including Paul McCartney’s step – mother Angie McCartney in LA.
Illustrator, Tom Corlett from Heswell, said: “I'm sure kids around Merseyside will enjoy spotting lots of familiar places in the book when it's released this Christmas."
