Colourful umbrella display returns to Liverpool
Local school children put on a colourful dance display this morning, as the Liverpool based- ADHD Foundation launched this year’s Umbrella Project on Church Alley.
The rainbow spectacular of over 100 umbrellas, have been decorated by school children from across the city, with messages of positivity and what strengths make them ‘super heroes’.
Speaking of previous years’ events Dr Tony Lloyd, chief executive of the ADHD Foundation said: “In both 2017 and 2018 the Umbrella Project installation in Liverpool attracted over 30 million media mentions and was the most instagrammed street in the world.”
He added: “We must take a fresh look and understand and embrace the 1 in 10 human beings who have learning differences. We have to move away from a 19th century notion of intelligence that viewed people from the perspective of what they could not do - rather than what they can do.”
Despite the wet weather, there was a good turnout at this year’s launch event, which was attended by members of the public and local councillors.
Speaking at this morning’s event, the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Brennan said: “The display brings a message to the city that it is okay to be different and we must celebrate our differences.”
