Fears over the future of Bixteth Gardens
Updated: Jun 11, 2019
Local residents, councillors and workers are concerned over the future of Bixteth Gardens after fences appear around the site, despite a petition of over 2,300 signatures.
Bixteth Gardens situated behind the Old Exchange Station between Bixteth Street and Pall Mall is marked for re-development as part of the £200 million Pall Mall scheme.
Liverpool City Council Plans for the area include new office space which will create 1800 jobs.
However local residents are concerned that the project will decrease Liverpool’s City Centre green space and will have a direct impact on the well-belling of office workers and local residents.
Labour Councillor Mandy Williams who has been involved with the community group against the Bixteth Gardens development has spoken about her concerns and has said “officer workers come down and use the space even in the autumn and winter”
Local resident Victoria talked about how the gardens influenced her to purchase a home in the area and said that the gardens were the “only green space in the area and is the main reason I brought my apartment”
Banners and posters now surround the gardens expressing the anger about the proposed development.
Residents are also concerned about the local wildlife in the area. With the gardens being home to bats, rabbits and an array of different birds.

The protest continues online with the Community group having an active twitter and facebook account.
